Occasionally, an umbilical hernia can occur in alpaca foals immediately or a few days after birth. This is nothing more than an oversized opening in the inner skin around the umbilical causing the inner part to bulge outward. This can be easily remedied with a harness which contains a cushion that pushes this bulge inward. The inner skin around the umbilical will grow closed within a few weeks after which the harness has done its job.
Directions for use.
This harness is very well adjustable with Velcro.
1 Place the pillow on the umbilical hernia
2 Close belt 1. relatively tight just before the hip joint.
3 Close harness 4. relatively tight around the chest
5 Adjust all Velcro belts for a perfect fit.

Warning for use.
It is recommended to disinfect the umbilical with iodine spray before putting on the harness.
Put on the harness as young as possible but not within 48 hours of birth.
The umbilical cord must be closed and dry before the harness can be put on.
Do not overtighten the harnesses! A finger should fit easily between each belt and the skin.
Check the harness regularly to make sure it is still comfortable and the cushion is in the correct position.
To check the position and progress of the recovery, simply loosen belt 1 and fold everything forward.
The harness should be worn for at least 2 weeks. If the umbilical hernia has not improved by then you should ask the vet for advice. Wash the harness after use. Use of this harness is entirely at your own risk.
