Alpaca Jackets

When do you use an alpaca jacket?

You can consider the following:
- How cold are the conditions?
- Is the coat of an alpaca thick enough?
- How old is your alpaca?
- What is his/her weight?

Not all Alpacas need a coat. A normal healthy alpaca with a jacket can go sweating and the chance of a pneumonia is higher. Ask your veterinarian for advice. We recommend the following alpacas a jacket:
- alpaca that has not enough fibre to keep him/her warm
- an old alpaca
- a thin/sick alpaca
- cria's under cold conditions
It are these Alpacas who will shiver when they are cold.
Check the body temperature with your hand between the alpaca and the jacket. Make sure they are not too hot.
